Recently, myself and a freind have been discussing the relevent merits of the iPhone using Edge or should it have had 3G ?
So when I saw an article on MacDailyNews this morning I was quite suprised that a German iPhone blog had run some of its own tests to compare the browsing speed on a iPhone with a Nokia E61i (which is a 3G phone). In the tests, they had turned the WiFi off so that both devices were using the cell network.
After all the negitive hype over how slow the Edge network is, it looks like there isn’t really too much in the browsing speeds. I would perform my own tests, but I don’t have a 3G phone anymore (i gave my my Nokia 6288 to get the iPhone – and it wasn’t ever used on the 3G network anyway!!!)
So it looks like it comes down to the following:-
- how good is your network coverage ?
- have you got a fast browser on the OS ?
- how important is your battery life ?
If I get better battery life with the Edge rather than 3G, I know which one I am sticking with (well until iPhone 2.0 is released!!! until I become weak again!!!)
